I think that with Project Based Learning, there are many forms of assessment that can be assessed. I personally think it is important to assess the process as well as the final product. I also really like the idea of students using reflection as a way to raise their own metacognition and provide a guide for students doing similar things in the future.
I agree that PBL opens up the possibilities for how students can be assessed. Taking the time to evaluate their own learning and reflect on positives and negatives of both the process and results will create a more aware student who will be successful in the future. Unfortunately, PBL can be time consuming and many teachers will not be willing and/or able to put the time and effort in that is necessary to implement such projects.

ReplyDeleteAgreed. Process is critical. Even if the final assessment activity fails, the process can be analyzed, and learning will occur for students and teachers.
